When Mollie Hansford married Dr. John Walls, she moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, seven miles south of Winchester. There the Civil War raged all around her for four long years. Her half-sister, Victoria Hansford, in the Kanowha Valley was equally surrounded by the perils of war at Coalsmouth, now St. Albans, West Virginia.
